David Ottenstein's work can be seen in Progressions salon in Woodbridge and in Caseus at Whitney Avenue and Trumbull Street in New Haven. Two recently acquired photographs will also be on display at the New Britain Museum of American Art until roughly the middle of November.

Two of my photographs, recently acquired by the New Britain Museum of American Art, are currently on display at the museum.

The New Britain Museum of American Art has just acquired seven photographs of mine for its permanent collection.

Because of this technique I am now succeeding at making photographs in situations I would not have attempted in the past.

I return frequently to photograph Amish farmland in this enchanting valley.

David Ottenstein has worked as a free-lance photographer in New Haven, CT since 1982 and is a member of the Professional Photographers of America. His commercial work includes architectural, product, editorial and people photography on location and in the studio. His clients have ranged from high tech corporations to non-profit organizations that provide social services.
David’s strong interest in American history and culture is reflected in his fine art/documentary work. This interest has led him to photograph interiors of decaying industrial buildings in the northeast U.S., to the Midwest, and more recently, to the mountains and Great Plains of the American West. Photographs from these projects are part of the Western Americana Collection at Yale University’s Beinecke Library, the Permanent Collection of Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa, the New Britain Museum of American Art in New Britain, CT,and part of numerous other institutional and private collections.
A portion of David’s work is also photographing weddings and bar mitzvahs. In this area, David applies the same fundamental principle that governs much of his commercial and fine art photography; his careful observation and concise photographic coverage will provide a moving record of an event.
David grew up in the small Pennsylvania town of State College where, at 14 years old, he picked up a camera and was immediately hooked. He received a degree from Yale University in 1982 in American Studies with a concentration in Photography. David is currently an Associate Fellow at Yale’s Silliman College.
