The American troops need your help!
Marlborough Bird and Animal Hospital is raising funds to aid Operation Baghdad Pups. This SPCAI (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals International) program is devoted to bringing home animals that servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan have rescued from the ill fate of most strays in these countries.
Servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan develop deep connections to the animals that they find in Iraq and Afghanistan. While these men and women are certainly saving the lives of these animals, the new-found pets offer companionship and hope to troops that often feel forgotten. This friendship and loyalty can help troops cope in war zones in ways that other bonds could not. Unfortunately, troops frequently have to leave these animals behind when their tour of duty comes to an end. Through this program, servicemen and women are offered the opportunity to bring cats and dogs that they have grown to care for home to the States. Sadly, this option is often cost-prohibitive for the troops. The cost for travel and care for just one of these animals is roughly $4,000.00. This covers any needed quarantine, travel, and vet expenses.
The staff at Marlborough Bird and Animal Hospital is committing itself to bringing an animal home. We are pledging our time and efforts to raise this $4,000.00 to help a local hero save a pet that has helped him or her to handle the stress of war.
