A WORD FROM PASTOR JOHN CONCERNING OUR NEW WEBSITE AND OUR NEW NAME:On August 15, 2010 our church membership voted to change the name of the church from Middlebury Baptist Church to The Church of New Life. This is the fourth time in the history of our church that the name of the church was changed. The church began its ministry in 1892. Back then the church was known as the Swedish Tabernacle Baptist Church. At that time, the church was located on Bishop Street in Waterbury, CT. Because of the desire to reach a more diverse population the word "Swedish" was dropped from the name in 1956 and the new name of the church at that time was Tabernacle Baptist Church. In January 1962 the church, which relocated to Middlebury Connecticut, changed its name to Middlebury Baptist Church. Even though we have recently changed our name to The Church of New Life, we are still a "Baptist" church and continue to be affiliated with Converge Worldwide (formerly known as the Baptist General Conference) and Converge Northeast (formerly known as Northeast Baptist Conference). The reason for changing the name of our church to The Church of New Life was to better express through our name the vision and ministry of our church which is to share with others the joy of the "New Life" that Jesus gives and to minister to people in a way that will lead them to experience the blessing of "New Life" in Christ. We wanted our new name to be an expression and reflection of the difference that Jesus can make in the lives of people. Thank you for visiting our new website.
